50th Day of Scool

It was 50's day celebration last week. What a greet day. 100 is coming soon...

Free Dress Day!!

Remember we earned a free dress day on Monday, November 12th. I want to thank all of my kids and their families for signing the parent policy involvement form to make this happen. It's going to be a chilly day!!

Family Science night .. Thursday!!

I hope each of you will do your best to come to our Family Science Night on Thursday October 25 from 5:30-6:30! We'll have several experiments for you to sample and take away. I can't wait to see you there!!

Parent conference time

It's that time of year families. We're scheduling parent/teacher conferences. I've already met with a few of my kiddos families and I'm so excited just to be able to have a few minutes with you face to face! Our busy lives don't give us much time to communicate as much as we'd all like to. Please be sure to send back the orange conference note I sent home Friday with your date and time preference so we can discuss your child's progress in first grade. I look forward to meeting you all.

Baby Shower for the "Quints"

Hello families, we created a baby shower invitation to update you all on what we're studying this week. The class is learning their "qu" and "wh" sounds. I borrowed this fantastic idea from
firstgraderatlast.blogspot.com
Thanks so much for your inspiration SC!!
Anyway, we have a baby shower set for Friday. Parents help your kiddos find something at home that has those sounds in it. 1 item is all they need, yes you can get creative too. Lets have some fun with this!!

Bring your dad to school..

So Friday was Dads day at school. I thank those of you who could make it and understand for those of you who were not able to. The kids understand how hard you all work and we all know time off is not easy.
For the dads who did come... The shirt graph was a lot of fun in math. My only regret is not taking pictures. Sorry!! After you left the kids completed their group graphs and we posted them in our room. I'm so proud of them for using what they learned this week to collect data and make a graph. I'll have to post pictures tomorrow, phones not working for me tonight, sorry!

Our new followers!

I'm so excited to have my students and parents following our class blog! I will start doing more in the next few weeks families. As for this week, keep following and commenting. Thanks wonderful families!!

Note** Scholastic Book orders are due tomorrow please log in from here to order or send order form in tomorrow. Lets build a library!

Word work time..

So another week has gotten away from me. Sorry for not posting sooner. I check daily just to see if any of my fabulous students have joined me. So far, no one yet. I've decided to make a little bargaining tool just to get my kiddos and their parents to check in from time to time. More on that later.
I've been crazy busy planning and creating fun work for our room so that's my excuse for now. Pinterest and the blogs I stalk have helped me in this creation.
Sight words are a must have and I have several fun word work ideas but this weekend I borrowed the sight words in a bottle from www.tunstalltimes.blogspot.com. If you haven't stopped by her blog I would highly recommend it. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas..
Anyway, I can't wait to introduce this to my firsties tomorrow...

Another week has flown by..

Well, it looks like our short week after Labor Day got away from me. I had so much going on I forgot to give a small update on our blog.

I'm very excited about what we are discussing in Science this week. My kiddos and I decided to make a video on the weather to submit to our school as one of our Tech Fusion requirements. Basically, I explained to them that they will be meteorologists and several of them will record an upcoming weather forecast. I asked the kiddos to think about the type of weather they would like to create and they all agreed on a bad storm with a tornado. (oh boy)

I couldn't believe the ideas they came up with to use as prompts and how they planned to create them!! I am amazed by their creativity and knowledge this far. So happy to be their teacher!

We plan to create tomorrow and video on Friday. Wish us luck and hopefully we can post our video here!

Meet the teacher!!

Welcome family and friends! I'm so excited to meet all of you and share our plans for an exciting year! Please be sure to visit and follow our class blog as soon as you can.
It's going to be a fabulous in FIRST year!!!

Happy Day 1 Firsties!!

Well, school started back today and I am so excited about my class!! I have the best group of kiddos and can't wait to see them all grow! Today was a day of catch up and info. Tomorrow - routines, routines, routines. I'm excited to get on schedule and get this class going! Welcome First Grade!!!

Days 6-9, class set up.

Ok, I've been so busy I forgot to update each day. Every time I cleared the desks I would organized another area and the desks would be messy again. So, Saturday at 7pm the tables were cleared and ready for our first day back!! I was über excited!!

Day 5 - in the room.

Ok, it's been a very long day and I was able to organize and hang quite a few things. I'm still trying to figure out how to arrange my desk space and our reading focus board. I'm hoping to finish 1 of 3 boards tomorrow, so we'll see...

Classroom days 3 & 4

I spent an hour in my room between trainings on day 3. I'd like to think I accomplished something but I think the only thing I accomplished was buying more fun items for our room. Thanks to a wonderful teacher friend!!
So... the room is still very unorganized but that's part of the process. :-)

I'm going back tomorrow..

So, my last post was 5 days ago. I went to school a couple of days ago and did a little work but didn't accomplish to much. I bought a new bookshelf and put that crazy thing together.. wheww!!! Happy that's complete! The new table I bought for our fabulous writing area didn't have all needed parts so back to Ikea I go. I should have that finished by Thursday though. I'm excited to see if it fits in its special place. I'll post new pictures of the room over the next few days so keep an eye out. It's getting close to our first day so I better hurry...

Days 1 & 2 of room set up

I forgot to take a picture of what our rooms really look like when we return from summer break. So, this was after a couple of hours in the room my first two days. All of the furniture was pushed against one wall and everything else was stored in cabinets. So I started arranging and setting up. Doesn't look that way based on the picture but I got quite a bit done. I've been struggling with my class arrangement because I wanted to try something new this year. We'll see if it stays this way when all is said and done...
