Response to Literature with Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse

Happy Last day of July friends!!

It’s that time when we’re all preparing for the back to school craze. I know, don’t talk about it yet but we have to face it sooner or later.
So, lets talk about Response to Literature (RTL). Something that is near and dear to my heart. I discovered a new in depth way to teach my kiddos how to really think about the text before responding to the questions asked. It seriously changed my life and my way of teaching.

RTL can be aligned to any text for most grade levels. With the included prompts, discussion questions and thinking maps in each unit, your students can respond to a simple question or go as far as writing an essay.
When responding students show they understand what they’re reading by making connections, retelling the plot, sharing background knowledge, experiences, using evidence they find in the texts and making comparisons.  This allows them to truly understand the text before responding.
I’ve created my first RTL based on a favorite story, “Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse.” or see it here
